So, I had to come up with ornaments that I thought the teens of Mobius Ink Writing group would really enjoy making.
It had to be Different!
It had to be Spectacular!
I was browsing some catalogs and came across some very cool ornaments in Urban Outfitters
(go figure...I love that catalog)
I
travelled to some local craft supplies stores and gathered my list of
supplies. I had a photo copy of how to marbelize paper from Martha Stewart's Encyclopedia of Crafts, and basically I just needed to adapt it to my ornament project.
The list was as follows:
Silver Bulbs
Silver Ribbon
Gesso Spray
Acrylic Paint
Spray Sealant
The
silver bulbs need wiped off first, and then the Gesso spray can be
applied. It needs about 20 minutes to dry. I only sprayed the lower half
of the ornament.
I
bought some shallow tin trays and each person picked out some colors
and put them in the tray. You can use a pencil or small comb to move the
paint around.
The
bulb can be manipulated in the paint to come out with desired effects.
We only put paint halfway up so the silver was exposed too. Then they
were hung to dry.
After
a day, you can be sure they're dry, and it's time to spray the
ornaments with the sealant. I added the silver ribbon; either as a bow
at the top, or as the actual hanging device.
| Voila, a really cool ornament for any Holiday Tree! |
| The teens were all very proud to hang their ornaments. |
